when we learnt from the trees
Greetings everyone.
I am sharing a quiet personal piece for this week, about memory, roots, and where I learned from growing up.
It’s inspired by the stories and experiences I had with my elders.
I hope you enjoy reading it.
there was nothing that satisfied
my curiosity and love of learning
as much as sitting at my grandmother’s feet
she was a booth of knowledge
a well of stories
that never seemed to run dry
one day
i grew immensely curious
of this limitless magical ability
and so i asked her
“grandma how do you know so much?”
she smiled
it was as if she was waiting for this question
it seemed
as if everything she had said until then
paled in comparison to her expression
when i asked
and so
she said
“no human being
taught me things
i learned from the sacred earth
i used to sit under the ancient trees
from midday to midnight
as a child
the trees taught me
everything i know
because they have been here
since the time of creation
they have seen it all.”
Thank you for reading.
May you be blessed on your journey through life.
Ameen and Asè
I hope to share another poem with you all next week.

May Allah bless you and all your loved ones. Ameen
May you embody and pass down that ancient sacred knowledge 🤲🏼
